A Lot of Good Material BUT A Lot of Lies Also...

The Coaching Institute tells people to sign up for the MASTER COACH program and they say you have WEEKLY ACCESS to a mentor. This is a lie. After my first mentoring session they said the next available spot was 4 weeks. After a couple of monthly mentoring sessions it stretched out to every 6 weeks. Guys come on. Also they say that in your values that "HONESTY" doesn't need to be a VALUE it should just be a given. But it's not a given. Clear as day is the 'weekly mentoring' versus 6 weekly mentoring. And if you complain they see it as "You are just being AT EFFECT." So they shout people down from complaining. 2. Also the course requires you to complete a series of online webinars. The webinars are spaced out so if you miss one it may not be repeated for another 12 months. Some of these webinars are key to passing your certificates. If you miss the webinar and your course time runs out then you have the option of enrolling for another year which is around $1000. 3. What people do not know is that 97% of students NEVER complete their courses and get their accreditations. This is pretty sad. I think Australian Education in the Government needs to investigate this as this is a very LOW completion rate. Especially for the high costs involved. MASTER COACH ENROLLEE, TCI.

I experienced something similar, I had mentors who didn't call when they said they would call, then when I tried to call the mentor they were always busy and I'd get fobbed off onto a new mentor only to be told how lucky I am to have access to free mentoring. The standard of their mentoring is sub standard and comes with a sales pitch to upgrade or buy yet another programme. Mentors don't sell they mentor.

TCI looks like a lot if fun. It's not like a normal TAFE or university. The main differences are that at TCI:

- you dance during your education

- your lecturers swear all the time

- it costs a load of money

- it's a cult

- if you give them any money you will regret it

You can't argue any point there as you are always a problem and at fault. And apparently you attracted everything that happened to you so it means TCI is always right.

TCI is a flawless 'god' and you are just a well of a well of never ending problems that you created yourself and they will help you to fix them at the price of losing your money dignity friends and family.

I quitted after 1/2 year of the intake weekend...because I had enough of brainwashing and *** mind games and humiliation.

I had enough of being pushed to buy more material courses being surrounded by TCI fanatics ( full of debt) that would encourage me to do things against my will and play *** mind games.

Yes I agree some of the material was beneficial but overall if you want to keep your sanity and savings get the *** out of there!!

Up Selling and Money Grabbing

Since enrolling with The Coaching Institute, seeing the way they gush over people and give people money for attending their Melbourne office for "Induction", you think Wow they are great. After about 4 hours in a room with the facilitator talking about himself and swearing, saying he only "chooses to work 15 days a month and lives extremely well", I thought this could be that he "excited" to have new recruits in the building!! Seeing first hand how and what The Coaching Institute does is just terrible. I attended a workshop over a weekend where you bring 2 people with you so you can share about what you are doing and the great things you can do moving forward. HA what a joke. Nothing but up selling and trying to get my friends enrolled into coaching. I was humiliated and embarrassed. I have withdrawn from my course and am awaiting my refund to which I think I will never get. I hope they are investigated and held accountable for their disgusting business practices.

Can't believe the greed of TCI when attending one of their training courses we were offered recordings of the course at a small cost of $1000 for the recordings to cover her costs.

The upselling never stops, and since when did coaching become all about sales and upselling?

I joined not because I want to sell to people, because I wat to help people live their lives more fully.

#1131964

The upselling never stops, they offer bonus Webinars which on the surface look great and then about half an hour into them the sales pitch begins. One trainer spends half an hour waffling on and then begins his sales pitch.

I wish they would stop wasting students time on offering bonus Webinars that are yet another sales pitch,

Their latest upsell is to get people to sign up for for a "your success package"at the intake weekend after they get your money for that 12 months later they offer you an affiliate package that you can sign other people up for.

It's the same programme they sell you in the intake weekend, basically they convince Yu to buy the same package twice. No wonder SP is making money, mm and all the claims for the amount of students they have had pass through their doors looks great however I do wonder how many of those students have actually completed the course and gained a qualification

#1131886

I Agree with you, I was up selled one week end and it was the biggest mistake i ever made financally. I have been sent an amount owing that is double what i signed up for, which by the way i have paid off more than the original course price.

It is all hype and the swearing is over the top.

#1058758

Be aware of the "free events" - they are a ploy to get you to sign up for a "pay event"

Be aware of the staff. They sales people and their loyalty and pay packets come from the owner.

And the owner wants sales. Lots. Of. Sales.

The Coaching Institute is shiny, bright and loud. And it wants your cash.

All of it.

Good Luck with getting your money back......there are ex students who have paid over $50K to this scam with no certificate to show for the waste of time, effort, money and lies they were told. For God's sake, will someone report them o a Current Affair????

This company must be investigated, they are sending the most wonderful people over the edge and very broke. They make promises of six figure incomes and it's all ***!!!! they give life coaching a very bad name.

DO NOT sign anything that The Coaching Institute offer. It's an absolute scam!!

#1047310
@PissedConsumer1046684

To make the six figure sums you would need to earn $400 from coaching every week day. TCI show you the few people who say they have achieved this but most are lucky to make $400 a week.

It's all show and hype. Mind you - it's a good money spinner for SP. Good on her - she's definitely earning a good six figure sum.

Warning: They are only accredited with The International Coach Guild - sound good?

THEY OWN IT!

Of course they are accredited with a body they own. Clever stuff.

This institute does not care for students, only making a $.

It has taken me 8 months to see how this institute operate, they are unsupportive, only interested in taking your money without supporting your learning journey. I would avoid the coaching institute at all cost, they are not recognised, other than through a accreditation agency they set up. They upset vulnerable students with hard manipulative selling techniques, i was a crew member and directed to ensure I man the eftpos machine and upsell hard, and don't take no for an answer. They have a well oiled business model, which is focused on getting dollars from students not supporting them to excel. I contacted to ask to defer studies due to financial stressors with family, I was advised this is not possible despite it being stated in their policy deferral was possible. All they were concerned with (and this went to the wow team leader) was ensuring I was able to pay next payment. They gave me no support or solutions whatsoever. They regularly invite you to webinars, and 9/10 they are to upset you to another product. Many of the training materials are very dated, recorded several years ago and outdated. I emailed the head trainer JP, and never received a reply (4months ago), I guess because i refused to sign up for a $4995 EDISC course. I honestly would advise ANYONE looking for a reputable course to really research, and find a place accredited by the government. If you like hearing the founder SP, continually gloat of how much money she earns or what expensive car she earns they sign up. Not what I consider professional and not impressive way to head a training institute. I truly have experienced this institute as a clear money hungry, and money focused institute- not focused on really supporting the students. I have taken the decision to withdraw today, and consider other reputable government recognised institutes to complete my training. Do you self a favour, save your money and steer clear of the coaching institute.

And how did you go with withdrawing? I withdrew and had a hard time with it....they continually coach you to being made "at effect" which is emotional manipulation if you ask me.

I know several people in my intake have withdrawn and others who wanted to. Yet on their books, the reasons aren't going to be the real reasons. From my experience I kept it clean and simple and didn't move one bit on my reasoning - I refused to enter into any of their upselling tactics, which they tried. It was very disappointing.

Thousands of dollars wasted.

#1024364

TCI is the worst place you could possibly study at. There is no support, no understanding just horrible up selling and scare tactics.

I'm struggling at the moment trying to get out of the contract with them due to illness and financial stress they don't give a *** about you it's just about making more money so that SP can fly on a private jet across Europe.

Yes I paid for that

#1018555

Totally agree with your comments. The worst 'education'service provider I have ever dealt with - that's is after 4 degrees including most recently a psychology degree.

They suck you in, upsell constantly and sell the message you will not succeed unless you buy-buy-buy, outdated and poor quality material, poorly trained staff. I withdraw and still waiting for a portion of the refund owed. Organisationally incompetent and ethically and morally bankrupt.

Would never recommend to anyone and am glad that I walked away from them. Many more reputable companies out there.

To me they are wise and intelligent - and they can tell the difference between quality education and a flashy rip off scam.

Most of the comments on this website are negative towards TCI. That tells me something (and it's not that everyone is naive or arrogant).

Disappointing, Hard sell

I enrolled after being recommended to TCI by different people. I attended the intake weekend and the swearing that commenced was disgusting. They talked a lot about the money you can make. Buy these products they are fantastic, they are discounted, they are always, always up selling and getting people further and further into debt for a longer period of time. They do not mention the ICF (International Coaching Federation) when I found out that their course is not aligned with the ICF or ASQA within Australia, I wanted to cancel my course. The website is confusing and the instructions on how to use it is limiting. Swearing in webinars is unacceptable by facilitators. I withdrew at 4 weeks and they charged me $1000 per week, for extremely bad facilities and service. There was a lot of pressure to stay from the WOW team, they would call everyday and email everyday to keep you with them. I am expecting my refund this week and we will see what happens. I have told them that if my refund is not forth coming they will be contacted by my lawyer. I would definitely not recommend TCI, there are better Life Coaching courses out there where they don't swear and where they don't keep telling you how wonderful they are as their products speak for themselves.

I agree TCI are disappointing, full of hard sell and the Wow team lack WOW, empathy and ethics.

FRom the conversations I've had with the wow team it wouldn't surprise me if they have scripts to follow and if you ask a curly question they fob you off onto someone else who, repeats the same things the previous person said and then they end by saying they will get someone to call you back.

I hope you got your refund.

I wish a current affair would investigate TCI and SP

NOT WORTH THE MONEY - WARNING ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE SIGNING!

I attended one of their 1 day introduction to coaching seminars. As I expected with a free seminar they gave some good content and then spent the rest of the time pitching the course which includes a 3 day induction and ongoing webinars and course content that can be accessed online. Heres the catch... You pay your deposit $1500 which allows you to attend your 3 day induction weekend- Then you start paying anywhere between $77 - $230 per week for the online component of the course Everything has to be paid upfront before even seeing the course. I was hesitant so I paid the $1500 and withheld my payment details for direct debit. - They said I could do this on the day and pay the rest after I got access to the course. I attended the FOCS induction weekend. It was a repeat of the content from the original 'Free' day and they constantly tried to upsell you to the next coaching course above. It was crazy to see vulnerable women in their 50's that had some emotional issues being resolved in the training having spent $5000 on the course upgrading to $15,000 3 year courses during the break. As for the course content... there is nothing you can't find on google if you google the topic. All they have done is collect and compile the information and put it conveniently in one place in the form of a resource library and then call it their "Intellectual Property" - Yeah right... nice try Triads ( Groups you get put into to do practice coaching) - Absolute nightmare. All 3 triads Fell apart within the first 6 weeks from people leaving the course. If you cannot do your triad coursework then you cannot complete the course. However the biggest lie of all is the ICG accreditation - International coaching guild is owned by the Coaching Institute and they make you try to buy a membership for some insurance purposes. When you complete the course you are actually not officially recognised as anything! Coaching is an unregulated industry so anybody can call themselves a coach. You don't even have to pay 5k. The only thing you have is a certificate from the Coaching Institute that isn't worth the paper it is written on and not recognised as any formal training either nationally or internationally. Please save your money and ALWAYS ask to see what it is your buying before you part with your money!

This is a really detailed review of The Coaching Institute. I was thinking of enrolling but will now widen my search.

I was initially impressed that they were reconised by the International Coaching Guild - but if TCI own it - then the recognition is worthless.

I have completed the one day free induction course as well.

Thanks for talking the time to post this review. It may have saved me a lot.

THE COACHING INSTITUTE - WATCH YOUR WALLET!!!!!

Similar experience and still paying for it financially. Turned it into a positive and have been successfully running my own business albeit not as a coach for the past 4 years. Service, 'what service' - once they have you hooked and in a contract there's nothing more. DONT USE THEM - they even tried to sign up my 18-year-old daughter who was on a traineeship - JP kept at her and said she could sign up now and pay later - I had to intervene and still he didn't stop. AHHHHH - upselling and selling from the stage from my experience is emotional and financial blackmail.

I am of the understanding that VCAT have now seen numerous cases come of students trying to get compensation back from such a poor investment to TCI the money machine!!

Coaching is NOT a growing industry. No one hires a life coach.

Don't waste your time here adding to Ms Pearson's collection of luxury cars. The lie that coaching is something you will make a living from is the central problem with this place. I guess it's because they know no-one is going to spend a fortune on their courses just to improve themselves - people need to feel that it could be a career for them in order to justify the money. But basically, you're doing these courses to get your confidence back or whatever - NOT to make a career out of coaching. Because, just think about it - no one you know hires a life coach, do they? If it was "growing" or "booming" then surely you'd know people in your extended social circle who are using them? Also, each month this college churns out more and more trained life coaches, flooding the market - but there's no work for them, no one is hiring them.

My ex did it and she changed completely for the worst. Spend $20k + on *** courses.

Honestly they attract and get people who easily lead and manipulated. Suck their money up.

#986446

The media need to look into this scam. The people they attract tend to be quite weak - wage slaves etc who are needing some help, some confidence boosting - and she plays on that, and basically relieves them of any savings they've got.

And her sales team are really forceful and convincing. It's like a bloody cult - like you've joined scientology etc!

The Coaching Institute - Over promises & Under delivers Massive FAIL

Initially, I wanted to sign up for my own personal development but after talking with their sales team i was up sold to the advanced course. I attended the intake weekend in March 2014 and after 3 days of subtle but persistant info about WHY we should sign up to the Master Life Coaching course, 95% of the people signed up. I discussed with JP the fact that I really wasn't sure about even what the course entailed or even if I would ever want to be an executive coach but he assured me that if I changed my mind I could ring him. What a load of BS ! I spoke with one of their WOW Team - not going to name names- and after telling her my story she told me that I got off lightly - she was in *** to the coaching institute for $30 000 !!! That somehow I shouldn't feel so bad and should just take from it what I could like she had. This was in September 2014. I asked to be let out of my course then but the WOW team member changed the subject. Once again I was contacted in March 1st and I once again voiced my opinion on the deficiency of the course. Out dated course material, deceptive SALES tactics (for example the word SALES was never mentioned in the whole time I was being told what the course was about. I HATE SALES !!!! and Coaching is 80% selling. I was contacted finally on my 3rd time by the WOW team to see what I wanted and I told them I wanted out of paying for the 2nd year, I was more than happy to pay for the 1st year as that was my original intention but I objected to paying for the 2nd year . I am still waiting for the WOW team (who promised me the info by a deadline that has now passed) to get me the paperwork. I signed up to the coaching institute because they had the most professional looking website but this is where their professionalism ends. AVOID AT ALL COSTS ! There are better coaching schools out there. Don"t be swayed by their slick advertising.

Hi there, I am interested in hearing more about your experience. Can you please email me? sylvia.varnham@***.com.au

#956721

They also upgraded me to diploma on the intake weekend in spite of the fact I was not ready for it emotionally and financially. However this is what they do and promote among the coaches :'give them what they need not what they want'.

I am just very curious how do they know what their clients need?? Or they just manipulate them into thinking what they need so the coaching institute can benefit from it??

As far as I am concerned they make up their own rules that match their sales pitch and the school's interest.

I read the international Coaching Federation's policies that it states clearly that you coach your clients on where they take you... maybe that s why the coaching institute is not part of it any more...

Refund now due for over 3 months

Lack of refund from TCI is frightening. I have waited over 3 months for a refund of less than $2000. The disappointment of wasting so much time with this organisation is distressing. Having to call everyday hoping for a resolution.... Anyone I speak with outside of TCI who have had the same experience recommend threatening legal action is the only way of getting money owed returned. No credible qualifications can be obtained either. Sub-standard trainers and turnover of administration staff is another indicator of the lack of credible services. The marketing and sales process of TCI is fantastic and that is where it ends. Horrible waste of time and money! Stay Clear!

I think that TCI hope that you simply give up and then they can add the $2000 to Sharon's bank account. Here are some tips on how to hurry up your refund:

- if you live in Melbourne go to their reception with a friend and demand a refund.

Cause a fuss. If you have the guts stand outside with a placard.

- contact Consumer Affairs Victoria. Send them your contract and they will assist.

- add negative comments to their Facebook page or the clips they have on youtube. They cannot remove the comments from youtube.

- go to a local court and ask for a petty claim against them. TCI could not be bothered going to a local court.

Their company is a money making machine that is not really interested in education or training. It is 100% focused on WOWing you to hand over cash and then blaming you if your "education" does not enable you to make a living out of coaching.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience. I am in touch with them and TAFE and glad I've opted for TAFE and will enrol today. It gives me peace of mind.
